What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) is an XML format, created to share web content among different websites, such as new items.

How does it work?
A Web site can allow other sites to publish some of its content by creating an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher.  Then, a web publisher can post a link to the rss feed so users can read the distributed content on his/her site.  These programs allow you to subscribe to various RSS feeds from different websites that provide RSS. The programs automatically go to the web sites to check for updates, so the stories come to you, without you having to check the sites for new stories.  (Users of sites such as “My Yahoo” and various Blogsites have the ability to upload RSS feeds to be displayed on their homepages.)
